Abstract
The study examines effects of fadama III project on socio-demographic factor of fadama farmers in sabon Gari LGA of Kaduna State-Nigeria. Four districts in Sabon Gari LGA participated in the Fadama III project. Fourteen (14) fadama user groups (FUG’s) were also randomly selected from each of the four selected district in the LGAs. The main source of data for the study was primary and was collected through the use of structured questionnaire. A total of 311 farmers constituted the sample size for the study. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used for data analysis in the study. The econometric result indicates that the entire variable shows that fadama III project has positive effect on the socio-demograpic factor of fadama farmers user group (FUG) except respondent’s level of formal education of the FUG’s which might be attributed to the reality of the fact that the fadama programme has subscribed to field school were all members of the community were given practical training on planting, harvesting, processing and packaging output which might not require any form of formal education. The study, therefore, recommends among others(1)the need for feasibility studies to avoid elite capture, (2) emphasis on sustainability of poverty reduction efforts, (3) provision of public infrastructures to mention a few.
