ENHANCING GRADE 2 LEARNERS’ UNDERSTANDING OF THREE-DIGIT PLACE VALUE THROUGH PLACE VALUE CHARTS AND MANIPULATIVE MATERIALS
Abstract
Place value understanding is essential for developing foundational numeracy skills among elementary learners. This study investigates the effectiveness of place value charts and concrete manipulatives in improving Grade 2 learners’ understanding of three-digit numbers at Ambaguio Central School. Employing a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design, the study evaluates learners’ performance before and after implementing structured instructional activities using baseten blocks, bundled sticks, and place value charts. Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test to determine improvements in mathematical understanding. The study aims to provide evidence on the potential of visual and hands-on instructional strategies to address place value difficulties. Findings are expected to inform effective instructional practices and strengthen foundational numeracy competencies in elementary Mathematics education
